A/B Test Shopping Ads

Everyone is telling you to optimise your shopping feed and test different attributes.

And for good reason, it can really make a difference to your CTR, search terms and how much profit you make from your shopping campaigns.

But I haven’t been able to find a good way of A/B testing shopping products, without spending money on expensive feed management software.

So I’m sure that you haven’t either.

Lucky for you, I’m a half-decent guy and I created a way for you to do it for free.

It doesn’t get you banned in GMC, and it allows you to run multiple different shopping ads for the same product at once.

It involves:

  1. Creating a Google Sheet containing 1 to several products from your feed that you’d like to A/B test

  2. Changing the product ID and attribute/s (e.g. title or image) that you’d like to A/B test

  3. Adding the Google Sheet as a second feed to Google Merchant Center

  4. Using a script to sync the ‘availability’ of your duplicated products so that you don’t waste money if they go out of stock

Here’s two of the same products, both being advertised in a client’s Google Ads account. Notice one has ‘dup’ appended to the Item ID.

The main thing to notice is that there are ‘No issues’ with the product, meaning that this duplication works.

I just posted a YouTube video explaining how to do it.

To access the code for the script that is mentioned, go to this document.

Hope this helps your shopping campaigns,

Myles.

PS - This video is one small part of the Google Ads course I’m releasing. If you’d like to see the ‘course document’ which is all the content I’ve made so far, then go here.
